SEO Copywriting

SEO copywriting is the art of writing website content so that it is readable and informative for visitors and, at the same time, is optimised to ensure search engine ranking. Because the search engines cannot read pictures, content is key to ensure that the search engines understand fully what your page / pages / website is all about. Therefore, Search Engine Optimisation copywriting is as tricky as it is crucial.

SEO copywriting is crucial because without it a site may never be ranked highly enough to be seen. Content must emphasis keywords enough that search engines find the content relevant and increase the page’s ranking, making it likely to be discovered in searches. This is the tricky part. Cramming an article full of keywords with no sense of flow and no focus on how the article actually reads to a human being, not just a bot scanning a page is useless. You won’t get repeat visits if readers can’t figure out what you’re saying or worse, if readers decide that you don’t care about content, just page rank. If a site visitor suspects “keyword stuffing,” your site loses credibility and hits.

This is the line that SEO copywriters must walk: they must write good copy with keywords pushed obtrusively, fitting the number of keywords a set number of times into a limited space. This is known as keyword density. It is vitally important to consider two main elements when writing the copy of your website. In order to satisfy the needs of the visitor to your site, and the requirements of the search engines, it must be easy to understand have the correct keyword density and placement.

Keyword Density

This is the ratio of a keyword or key phrase to the total number of words (referred to as the depth) on a page. It is a major influence on search engine optimisation. To improve search engine ranking, your keyword density must not be too high, but then again, not too low.

Try to aim for a keyword density of between 2% and 7%. Don’t try to stuff all your keywords together, separated by commas. Search engines may see this as spam, and consequently, will penalise your rankings.

Keyword Placement

Ensure that your keywords and keyphrases appear towards the top of the page, but one good tip is to end the copy with the relevant keyword in the last paragraph also.
